What is a kei truck?
A “kei truck” (軽トラック) is Japan’s class of mini trucks — compact, lightweight commercial vehicles with engines under 660cc. They are the most popular farm and work trucks in rural Japan and are rapidly growing in popularity across the USA.
Are these trucks new or used?
Our Japan and USA stock are used Japanese imports, typically 1990s–2000s models. Our Australia stock includes new 2024 and 2025 Daihatsu Hijet and Suzuki Carry models.
Import & Delivery
How long does import take?
Japan stock: 4–8 weeks. USA stock: 5–14 days. See our import guide for the full step-by-step.
Do you deliver to Canada?
Yes! We deliver to all Canadian provinces. Additional duties and taxes apply.
What is the 25-Year Rule?
US federal law allows vehicles 25+ years old to be imported without meeting NHTSA/EPA safety standards. Most of our Japan stock qualifies, which makes import simple and straightforward.
Do I need a customs broker?
No — JPM Mini Trucks handles all customs clearance, broker fees, and documentation as part of our import service.
Street Legality
Are mini trucks street legal in the USA?
They are street legal in most US states. See our complete State Legality Guide. States including Texas, Montana, Idaho, Tennessee, and many others allow kei trucks on public roads.
Can I drive a mini truck on the highway?
This depends on your state. In states where mini trucks are street legal, highway use is typically allowed. In others, they may be restricted to roads with 35 MPH limits or less.
Maintenance & Parts
Are parts available in the USA?
Yes. We carry parts and accessories for all major mini truck brands. Additional parts are available through Japanese import parts dealers. The Suzuki Carry and Daihatsu Hijet have the widest parts availability.
How reliable are Japanese mini trucks?
Extremely reliable. Japanese kei trucks are known for their longevity and low maintenance costs. Many examples with 50,000–100,000+ miles are still running strong. The 660cc engines are simple, robust, and easy to maintain.
What fuel do they use?
All our current stock runs on regular unleaded gasoline. Most get 40–50+ MPG.
